Grant Amount: Up to $10,000

Application Deadline: Inquiry form due April 30, 2020; full application due July 31, 2020

Notification: Approximately six weeks after application deadline; projects may begin on Oct. 1, 2020

Completion Date: Projects must be completed within two years of notification

Matching Funds: Applicants must provide at least a 50 percent match in cash or in-kind contributions (e.g., a $10,000 request must show at least $5,000 of matching support)

Indiana Humanities offers Innovation Grants to Indiana nonprofits, providing them with funds to develop and implement humanities programs that introduce new ideas, utilize unique approaches and/or reach underserved audiences. The goal is to support projects that that apply fresh and inventive components or methods to help people learn new information, consider different perspectives, share ideas and understand one another better. Programs should be creative and stretch boundaries—and they must be open to the public and utilize the humanities as a tool for engagement.

Funding for Indiana Humanities' Innovation Grants is provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities, a federal agency.

Restrictions to Use of Award:

Indiana Humanities will not award grants for any of the following purposes: 
  • Political action or advocacy
  • Religious practices or training
  • Creation or performance of art
  • Social services
  • Scholarships or prizes
  • Construction or renovation
  • Property or major equipment purchases 
  • Publication of books
  • Operating expenses
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Entertainment (unless it's a key educational component of the program)
